We’ve produced many recruitment videos for QUT across different faculties, each showcasing a particular student with an underlying message of why undergraduate, postgraduate and PHD students choose QUT to study.

Stephanie Parkin is a Master of Philosophy student enrolled in the Intellectual and Innovation program in the Faculty of Law.

Of Aboriginal descent, Stephanie comes from the Quandamooka people of North Stradbroke Island.

The Quandamooka artists are the storytellers of the people, telling individual and collective memories through their artistic works and dance performances, so visual and performing art form a strong part of their identity.

With a Bachelor of Justice, majoring in criminology, Stephanie was previously working with McCullough Robertson Lawyers, where her interest in intellectual property was sparked – in particular, how copyright could help Aboriginal artists protect their work.

With her passion to give back to her community and people, Stephanie’s Higher Degree Research is based on the manufacture and sale of fake Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art in the souvenir market.

This is a story told by Stephanie herself – a very personal approach to inspiring other indigenous students to consider QUT for their next level of study – to be researchers and experts in issues that directly affect their communities.

This video has been so successful QUT have commissioned another ATSI case study video featuring a mature-age student also undertaking Higher Degree Research.
